Employees of Enel PJSC Russia released about 8 thousand young salmon juveniles to the Umba river in the Murmansk region

Enel Russia, through its subsidiary Enel Rus Wind Kola, took part in stocking the Umba river in the Murmansk Region. Representatives of the company together with the Murmansk branch of GLAVRYBVOD Federal state budgetary institution released almost 8 thousand a year-old Atlantic salmon to the river. The event was held within the framework of artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources of the region.

The Umba river flows from the largest lake of the Murmansk Region - Umbozero and flows into the White Sea in the Kandalaksha Gulf in the lands of the Tersk District. Along its entire length Umba is suitable for spawning humpbacked salmon and Atlantic salmon.

In the Murmansk Region, Enel Russia is constructing Kolskaya Wind Power Plant which will have an installed capacity of 201 MW. At the moment, it is the largest wind farm under construction beyond the Arctic circle. It could generate about 750 GWh per year, while avoiding the release of about 600,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The wind farm will be equipped with 57 turbines and located in a area of 257 hectares in total.

“In accordance with its Sustainable Development strategy, Enel Russia focuses on preserving the biological diversity in the territories of its presence. We strive to minimize the impact on the environment. When we began to design Kola Wind Farm, there were many questions how it would affect the existing ecosystems. Now we can claim with all responsibility that besides contributing to the biological balance, we also help restoring natural resources of the Murmansk Region.”

– Felice Montanari, Head of Renewable Generation of Enel Russia

It stands to mention that the work on waters stocking is also carried out in other regions of PJSC Enel Russia presence. So, in 2019, the Company’s employees, involved in the construction of Azovskaya Power Plant (Rostov Region), together with the Azov-Black Sea branch of GLAVRYBVOD Federal state budgetary institution released 325 sturgeon juveniles to the Kuban river.

Moreover, for five years since 2013, specialists of Sredneuralskaya GRES (power plant of PJSC Enel Russia in the Sverdlovsk Region) released more than 286 thousand grass and silver carp individuals to the Isetskoye reservoir.
