Climate action

We are aware of the importance of the climate agenda and the impact that we, as a generating company, have on the global carbon footprint.

We are continuously working to reduce direct emissions associated with energy production, helping to reduce the carbon footprint of our consumers. The main tools that help us in this matter are efficiency improvement of gas generation equipment, as well as increasing the share of "green" generation. In 2021, the Azov wind farm, the first one commissioned by of our company, was put into commercial operation, and the construction of the Kola wind farm in the Murmansk region is ongoing.

In 2021, our company started developing its own climate strategy. At the first stage, climate risks were assessed in the short, medium and long term. We have studied the risks and opportunities for each of our assets, depending on the generation technology (thermal or RES) and the region of location of a particular generation facility. We also took into account the recommendations of the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) in our assessment. We studied which of the risks and their components could potentially affect the company's activities in the long term until 2050.

For more information on the company's climate strategy and risk register, see the 2021 Sustainability Report.

Striving to meet the goals and objectives set by global benchmarks, our company developed and approved KPIs for 2022-2024, which provide for a gradual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from fuel combustion for electricity and heat generation due to the commissioning of renewable energy facilities and the implementation of plans for modernization of existing thermal generation equipment. Thus, by 2024, we aim to reach 412 g CO2-eq/kWh.

Climate issues in our company are under the responsibility of employees of various functions and positions, which is related to the specifics of our business. As a major energy company, we must have a particularly responsible attitude towards the issues of energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction.
