Safety of the discharge channel is improved at Nevinnomysskaya GRES

At Nevinnomysskaya GRES of PJSC Enel Russia a package of measures is implemented to improve safety of the discharge channel and prevent accidents at the hydraulic structures of the power plant.

The hydraulic structures of Nevinnomysskaya GRES are places of the increased risk. Swimming and staying in their proximity are strictly prohibited due to the reason of high speed of the water flow and whirlpools at the place where water flows from the channels into the river. If a swimmer gets caught in this strong current, he has almost no chance to swim out. The slopes of the discharge channels of Nevinnomysskaya GRES are lined with concrete and if a person slips or falls in the water, he will hardly have a chance to come ashore. However, even such important circumstances do not often stop either adults or children from putting at risk their lives and lives of others.

To prevent such situations Nevinnomysskaya GRES fully meets the requirements prescribed by the law on protection of the hydraulic structures and prevention of the accidents at them. A number of measures is taken above the legal requirements - for instance, constant work on raising awareness, installation of information signs on the inadmissibility of bathing and fishing on the banks of the discharge channels.

In 2021, a private security company patrolled the entire area of the discharge channel on a round-the-clock basis and a 24-hour guard post with two people using vehicles was arranged.

In 2022, the project on installing a safety fence for the discharge channel was initiated, and it includes the fencing itself, a LED lighting system, a video surveillance system, and a public address system. The lighting poles installed every 30 meters are fitted with LED lights, while video cameras and loudspeakers have been installed on every other pole and cover a distance of 60 meters. All information from the installed devices will be transmitted to the NGRES guard chief. The project also allows to transfer the received information to the "Safe City", Nevinnomyssk city information system of collection, processing and storage of video recordings.

"The specialists of Nevinnomysskaya GRES are implementing a comprehensive approach to the prevention of accidents at hydraulic structures. On the one hand, we physically restrict access to them; on the other hand, we are working to improve the safety culture of the city residents in general, conducting safety lessons and workshops at schools. We hope that the taken measures will help to avoid tragedies,"
