The first batch of main equipment for the Kola wind farm arrived at the construction site

The first batch of main equipment for the Kola wind farm of Enel Russia, located in the Murmansk region, arrived at the construction site. It contains three sets of nacelles. This heavy cargo (each nacelle weighs more than 68 tons), was loaded onto special machinery that took it by the road through Murmansk to the construction site of the Kola wind farm.

Nacelles are bulky equipment. Each nacelle is more than twelve meters long and more than four meters wide, its height being more than four meters. For the safe transportation of the equipment, a special port and road infrastructure was prepared, and an illumination pole was dismantled on the Kola bridge in order to allow the subsequent delivery of the blades. The preparatory works were carried out in difficult weather conditions.

In total, this batch of main equipment included sixteen nacelles which were delivered to the Murmansk commercial seaport from the Bronka port in St. Petersburg. The total transit time was about fourteen days. The remaining thirteen nacelles are currently located in the port and will be delivered to the construction site later.

In addition to these nacelles, sixteen sets of towers and sixteen sets of blades will be delivered to the construction site of the Kola wind farm in the coming weeks. This batch of equipment will allow to start the installation phase of 57 wind turbines of the largest wind farm in Russia beyond the Arctic Circle.

The wind farm is constructed by Enel Green Power, global business line of Enel Group responsible for the development and operation of renewable energy facilities around the world. LLC Enel Rus Wind Cola, a subsidiary of PJSC Enel Russia, is responsible for the project management.

Enel Russia was awarded 201 MW Kola WPP project as the result of the 2017 Governmental tender for construction of wind generation facilities with 1.9 GW of total installed capacity.

The windfarm will be able to generate about 750 GWh annually avoiding the emission of approximately 600 000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. It will include 57 turbines covering the total area of 257 hectares.

In addition to Kola WPP, Enel Russia also develops two other wind projects: Azov WPP (90 MW) in the Rostov region and Rodnikovskaya WPP (71 MW) in the Stavropolskyi Krai.

The total amount of investment in the Kola wind farm is around 273 mln euro. The total amount of investment in these three projects is around 495 mln euro which is yet another demonstration of the Company’s commitment to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, namely to the SDG No. 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG No. 13 - Climate Action.
