More than 200 thousand pines have been planted in Murmansk region

LLC Enel Rus Wind Kola, a 100% subsidiary of PJSC Enel Russia, has planted more than 200 thousand pine seedlings in Murmansk region.

The planting project was developed and approved by the power engineers with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Murmansk Region last year. In May and June 2021, 223,437 seedlings of Scotch pine, two to three years old, with an open root system, were planted on the territory of Taibol forestry. Seedlings were delivered in the refrigerated trucks from a forest nursery in the Republic of Karelia to the city of Olenegorsk, Murmansk region, then they were reloaded onto the boats and “floated” along the lake for 14 km to the landing site.

As a result of cooperation between Enel Rus Wind Kola and Murmansk Forestry, a forest area of 71.5 hectares was restored on the shore of Lake Kolozero, which was damaged by a fire in 2018.

"Operating in the region, Enel Rus Wind Kola supports environmental projects, even if they are not directly related to the construction of our Kolskaya wind power plant. We strive for maintaining biodiversity in all areas of presence, because we feel responsible for their nature. In 2020-2021, the company took part in the stocking of the Umba River when more than 10 thousand one-year-old (2020) and two-year-old (2021) salmon fry were released into the reservoir,”

- Makar Kuznetsov, General Director of Enel Rus Wind Kola LLC

In the Murmansk region, Enel Russia is building Kola wind farm with installed capacity of 201 MW. At the moment, it is the largest wind farm under construction beyond the Arctic Circle. The wind farm will be able to generate about 750 GWh per year, while avoiding the release of about 600,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The wind farm will be equipped with 57 turbines and located on a total area of 257 hectares.
