Enel Russia reminds of its commitment to sustainable development on International wind day
On June 15, 2020 the International Day of Wind is celebrated in many countries. This holiday is especially popular in countries with a high share of wind energy in the energy balance. In Russia, this industry is actively developing, and PJSC Enel Russia is contributing to its strengthening.
As a result of 2017 Russian Government tender for the construction of 1.9 GW of wind capacity in the country Enel Russia was awarded 90 MW Azov and 201 MW Kola wind farm projects. In June 2019 Enel Russia was awarded another wind project of over 71 MW, Rodnikovsky wind farm, located in the Stavropol region. Enel Russia’s overall investment in the three facilities amounts to approximately 495 million euros.

Enel Russia is actively constructing two of the three mentioned wind farms currently.
Towers, nacelles, hubs and blades for future Azov WPP wind turbines have already arrived at the construction site. The construction of the first wind turbines will begin in the nearest future. The wind farm will be able to generate around 320 GWh of clean energy each year once fully operational, avoiding the annual emission of around 250,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. The project will consist of 26 turbines spread across 133 hectares. Enel Russia’s overall investment in the Azov wind farm amounts to approximately 132 million euros. The wind farm is included in the list of priority investment projects drawn up by the Governor of the Rostov region.
On the construction site of future Kola WPP the construction of temporary roads to facilitate the delivery of the required equipment and materials to the construction site was finished, the construction of the construction camp was also completed; the company advanced in foundation preparation works as well as excavation works and is currently carrying out blasting operations necessary for foundation installation. A part of the elements of structures and construction materials for the wind farm have already been delivered to construction site. The wind farm and will be able to generate around 750 GWh per year, avoiding the emission of around 600,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. The wind facility will consist of 57 turbines covering a 257-hectare area. The overall investment of Enel Russia into the Kolskaya wind farm amounts to approximately 273 million euros.
Rodnikovsky WPP is in design phase now. The project was recently awarded the status of a of a large-scale investment project in the Stavropol region. Enel Russia’s overall investment in Rodnikovsky amounts to approximately 90 million euros. Once operational, due in the first half of 2024, the wind farm is expected to generate around 220 GWh per year while avoiding the annual emission of around 180,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Enel Russia’s wind farms altogether will allow to avoid more than 1.1 mln tonnes of CO2 emissions annually contributing also to the objectives of the Paris Agreement to limit the increase in global average temperature to less than 2°C above the pre-industrial levels.
