The first batch of main equipment for the Azov wind farm arrived at the construction site

The first sets of towers and hubs, necessary for the construction of wind turbines, arrived at the construction site of Enel Russia’s Azov Wind Farm of in the Rostov Region.

The first set of towers comprises three assembly sections. The biggest is 30 meters long and weights 79 tonns. The total weight of three sections is nearly 200 tonns. It took approximately 12 hours to deliver it from Taganrog to the construction site. In total there will be 26 such sets – according to the number of wind turbines of Azov wind farm.

Apart from towers, the first hubs were delivered to the construction area. The first nacelles are expected to be delivered in the upcoming days. This cargo, weighing more than 720 tons in total (one nacelle weighs 68 tons, and a hub - 35 tons), had a difficult journey both by land and by sea from the manufacturer in the Leningrad Region to the place of construction of the wind farm. The delivery took about a month. For ground transportation, a number of measures have been developed that are necessary to prepare the route to the construction site to ensure unhindered transportation with long-length vehicles. In addition, access roads to the construction site with load-bearing capacity for the transportation of heavy cargo were built.

Also, the first set of blades 65.5 meters long, each weighing 20 tons, will be delivered soon to the construction site of Enel Russia’s Azov Wind Farm. The construction of the first wind turbines will begin in the nearest future.
Enel Russia’s technological partner is Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, the company is responsible for supplying the wind turbines for this wind farm.

Enel Russia was awarded 90 MW Azov WPP project as the result of the 2017 Governmental tender for construction of wind generation facilities with 1.9 GW of total installed capacity.

The wind farm will be able to generate about 320 GWh annually avoiding the emission of approximately 250 000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. It will comprise of 26 turbines covering the total area of 133 hectares.

In addition to Azov WPP, Enel Russia also develops two other wind projects: Kolskaya WPP (201 MW) in the Murmansk region and Rodnikovskaya WPP (71 MW) in the Stavropolskyi Krai.

The total amount of investment in these three projects is around 495 mln euro which is yet another demonstration of the Company’s commitment to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, namely to the SDG No. 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy, SGD No. 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG No. 13 - Climate Action.
